IORA Medicinal Plant Focal Points Workshop

The development and utilisation of plant species for medicinal purposes in a sustainable way has become increasingly important due to its significant health value.

With the vast potential value of medicinal plants’ contribution to the economic development of the Indian Ocean region, the National Agency for Drug and Food Control (BPOM) of the Republic of Indonesia, in collaboration with the Regional Centre for Science and Technology Transfer (RCSTT), supported by the IORA Secretariat and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, organised the third Meeting of Medicinal Plants Focal Points of the RCSTT, the Specialised agency of IORA, convened with the theme of “Synergism between Academician, Business and Government (ABG) in the Development of Medicinal Plant Products: Utilization of Evidence-Based Research”.

The objectives of the meeting are to share information and exchange of views on framework of collaboration amongst ABG in developing medicinal plant products, as well as promoting research interest on medicinal plants that could be applied and comply with the market need, either to be commercialized as an over-the-counter products or to be used and integrated within the national health system.
