The role of the Blue Economy in supporting sustainable economic growth through oceans-related sectors and activities, while improving human well-being and social equity and preserving the environment is well recognised worldwide, However, this sector has also experienced the adverse impacts of COVID-19, including in the tourism and shipping industry, as well as fish trade. There is a need to explore ways to address these challenges that would in turn contribute to sustainable and equitable blue recovery, and thus to a post-pandemic economic recovery.
To address this important topic, The Republic of Korea (ROK) will host the 2nd ROK-IORA Partnership Seminar on 8-9 July 2021, under the theme of “Partnership for Blue Economy to Attain Sustainable Development in the Post-COVID-19 Era” with a focus on Blue Economy.
The objectives and expected outcomes of the Seminar are to:
The Seminar will comprise of sessions focusing on: conservation and sustainable use of fisheries resources; promoting sustainable global maritime transport connectivity; and realizing the potential of Blue Economy. It is hoped that this seminar will result in concrete recommendations to sustainably develop the blue economy in the Post COVID-19 era.
