Fisheries supply chains are changing in response to environmental, economic and social trends.  COVID-19 has also impacted seafood production and markets.  IORA is supporting two webinars, on 20 and 21 May, as part of its partnership with the Digital Seafood Trade Show.  Join the discussion remotely for free.

First webinar, 20 May: “The new frontiers of the fish supply chain for sustainable trade and conscious consumption”.

This webinar will be held on 20 May 2020 at 10.00 GMT+2 (Rome time).  The webinar will hear from experts, international organisations, government and industry and will review the trends impacting fisheries supply chains, which are of central importance to the Indian Ocean economy, as well as Indian Ocean countries’ efforts to manage fisheries in an equitable and sustainable manner.

IORA’s nominated expert will address the webinar, Dr Drishtysingh Ramdenee of the Economic Development Board of Mauritius, representing the Chair of IORA’s Working Group on Trade and Investment (WGTI).  The agenda is available here.  Join at this link: https://vfairs.zoom.us/j/93106791668

Second webinar, 21 May: “The impact of COVID-19 on the fishing industry in the world”.

This webinar will be held on 21 May at 10.00 GMT+2 (Rome time).  The webinar will review the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the fisheries supply chain, and ways that industry and governments can best respond to #buildbackbetter.

Three IORA nominees will address the webinar:

  • Mr Aubrey Harris is the Main Resident Expert for the Technical Assistance Project for the Implementation and Coordination of the IORA Action Plan in fisheries, aquaculture and the marine environment (3 year, EUR1 million project supported by France through the Agence Francaise de Developpement).
  • Dr Emily Ogier, Fisheries Social Science Research Fellow at the University of Tasmania, Australia, lead author of the recent report “Impacts of COVID-19 on the Australian Seafood Industry”, available here.
  • Mr Selwyn Edmond, General Manager Agency Operations, Seaward Co Ltd, Seychelles.

The agenda is available here.  Join at this link: https://vfairs.zoom.us/j/93097075154
