The South African Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the South African Chapter of the Indian Ocean Rim Association Group (SA-IORA) will host the 24th IORAG meeting on 3 August 2018.
At this meeting, assembled academics will exchange views and finalise the document entitled; “Institutional Reform of the IORAG and the Terms of Reference (ToR) for the Standing Sub-Committee” while considering previous IORAG reform decisions, documents and lessons learnt. It will also develop a criteria for the establishment of the IORA Centres of Excellence and discuss the IORA Indian Ocean Conference on Blue Carbon which was held on 19-23 March 2018 in Perth, Australia.
Academics at the forthcoming meeting will be able to propose concrete ‘do-able’ proposals for capacity building, training workshops and studies to be developed from the flagship initiatives in the IORA Action Plan as identifies by IORA Member States.
IORA’s partners, which include its Specialised Agencies and the Chair in Indian Ocean Studies, will also have the opportunity to present reports of their activities as well as future programmes.
