Released: Recommendations from women entrepreneurs on improving the business environment for women in the Indian Ocean region. IORA and UN Women brought women business leaders together to hear their views. A summary of their recommendations is now available.
Women entrepreneurs and business leaders from across IORA Member States came together for a Virtual Café on 20 April 2021, and a public webinar on 29 April 2021, to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing women in business.
The outcome document is now available, ‘Supporting Women Entrepreneurs and Women-Owned Businesses Across the Indian Ocean Rim.’ The document presents recommendations proposed by women entrepreneurs and business leaders, grouped under five categories:
- Access to funding and finance
- Access to markets
- Access to technology
- Support for care responsibilities
- Access to COVID-19 specific support.
Two leading women in business addressed the webinar, facilitated by UN Women: Ms Judi Nwokedi, COO at Tourvest Holdings Pty Ltd. in South Africa and Past Chair of the Indian Ocean Rim Business Forum (IORBF), and Ms Chahat Aggarwal, Founder and CEO of Impact Study Biz in India. A recording of the event is available here.
This dialogue and outcomes document form part of a three-year partnership between IORA and UN Women to support women’s economic empowerment and the promotion of the Women’s Empowerment Principles in the Indian Ocean region. The partnership is supported by Australia. Read more about the project here.
