INTERNSHIPS & SCHOLARSHIPS
Welcome to the Internships and Scholarships program at the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), where we are committed to providing opportunities for aspiring individuals to grow and contribute to the development of the Indian Ocean Region.

Our internship and scholarship programs are designed to empower talented individuals, fostering a new generation of leaders passionate about regional cooperation and sustainable progress.

Sheik Scholarship

Our scholars are a central part of our ‘supporting young people to reach their potential’ work stream, which seeks to identify exceptional young men and women excelling in their respective fields of study, and to support them in their chosen career paths.

Our programme awards full tuition fee scholarships, covering tuition fees and a wider package of support for each successful candidate.  All scholars are offered paid work experience in a charity, access to a mentor and leadership development training.

2018 marked the centenary of the birth of Nelson Mandela and provided an opportunity for the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) to solidify the historical link it has with the global icon by contributing to another of his visions: to change the world for the better.

To this end, “The IORA-Nelson Mandela Be the Legacy Internship Programme” was launched during the 18th Council of Ministers’ (COM) meeting held on 2 November 2018 in Durban, South Africa.

This was further reiterated in the “Special Declaration on the Commemoration of the Centenary of the Birth of Nelson Mandela” and the eThekwini Communique, adopted by the Ministers and Heads of Delegation of IORA Member States at the COM meeting.
