The Chair of the Working Group on Trade & Investment (WGTI), Australia, hosted virtually the 19th WGTI meeting, gathering government officials responsible for trade and investment from IORA’s Member States.
The meeting heard presentations on ‘COVID-19-related challenges and opportunities for trade and investment in the Indian Ocean region’ from Dr Rolf Alter, Senior Fellow, Hertie School - Berlin’s University of Governance; Dr Asanka Wijesinghe, Research Fellow Institute of Policy Studies of Sri Lanka; and Mrs Natasha Narrainen Ponen, Principal Trade Policy Analyst, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mauritius, followed by a general discussion.
Officials revised the WGTI work plan to ensure the delivery of the trade and investment elements of the 2nd Action Plan (2022-27).
The meeting committed to continued cooperation and meeting regularly virtually and in-person.
