The NMIP aims to create a strong and growing base of young people in the Indian Ocean Region that understand and support the need to safeguard an Indian Ocean that is safe, secure and develops sustainably. The programme will also serve to strengthen the capacity of the IORA Secretariat as called for in the IORA Action Plan (2017-2021). The NMIP provides the opportunity to gain practical experience in an intergovernmental organisation and to engage with a diverse community of professionals and policymakers.
Interns are assigned to relevant functional areas and contribute to ongoing work through research, programme support, coordination, and administrative tasks. Through this experience, interns enhance their analytical and professional skills, deepen their understanding of IORA’s Priority Areas and Cross-Cutting Issues, and contribute to advancing regional cooperation and sustainable development.
